Music Lessons - Guitar, Singing, and Songwriting
Online and In Person In Ottawa, Ontario

“And when you say: ‘Give me also a share in these gifts which you have found so helpful,’ I reply that I am anxious to heap all these privileges upon you, and that I am glad to learn in order that I may teach. Nothing will ever please me, no matter how excellent or beneficial, if I must retain the knowledge of it to myself. And if wisdom were given me under the express condition that it must be kept hidden and not uttered, I should refuse it. No good thing is pleasant to possess, without friends to share it.” - Seneca, Letters from a Stoic 6.4

Over the more than 20 years I have been a musician, one of the most important and fulfilling parts of my journey has been to share what I have learned with other musicians.

Guitarists, vocalists, and song-writers—experienced and aspiring—are welcome to book a one-on-one lesson with me over Zoom or in person where we can work on:

  • Constructing a solid musical foundation

  • Finding your musical voice

  • Building strong practice habits

  • Developing a lifelong relationship with music

  • Learning how to effectively manage your time

  • Designing a practice routine that works for you

  • Selecting, creating, and finishing various music projects

These sessions will combine elements of traditional lessons (technique, theory, ear training, learning songs, songwriting and production basics, etc.) and coaching—utilizing a process I call "building a musical life." I teach using the best I’ve learned through my experience as a musician, singer-songwriter, and educator, while including tools and strategies from the worlds of productivity, habit building, lifestyle design, psychology, and philosophy.

It is my intention to help serious musicians make music a part of their lives in an effective and sustainable way. I keep my teaching roster deliberately small so I can focus more of my attention on helping a select group of dedicated musicians and artists.

Lesson Types:

There are three lesson types available: standard weekly, personalized weekly, and personalized non-weekly

All lessons will make use of original, pre-created teaching material—featuring pdfs, mp3s, and videos—which will be selected to support the strengths, weaknesses, and goals of each individual student.

Students taking personalized lessons will receive extra custom practice material, projects, and a custom practice routine. They will also have access to me between lessons in order to ask questions or receive additional help or feedback.

Weekly lessons are scheduled for the same day and time each week. Students who do not have a consistent schedule—or who do not wish to have weekly support—can book a non-weekly personalized lesson as needed, or as their schedule allows.

Lesson Pricing:

Standard Weekly:

Introductory Lesson Bundle:

The Introductory Lesson Bundle is available to students who have not previously taken lessons with me. It consists of four (4) discounted standard 30-minute music lessons ($100 for all four lessons rather than the typical $120).

This bundle is ideal for students who are looking for assistance in getting started with music, and for those who are interested in studying with me, but who would like to get a feel for my teaching approach and methods before committing to regular lessons.

Please read the lesson bundle policy for more details.

If you know an aspiring musician who would benefit from lessons, the Introductory Lesson Bundle is also available for purchase as a gift certificate.

If you’re serious about music, committed to making it a meaningful part of your life, and determined to become the musician and artist you want to be, fill out the form below to schedule a session or to begin weekly lessons. Please include some details about your experience with music, and two to three specific things you would like help with.

Prospective students must read through the lesson policy, sign it, and submit it to me before they will be added to the schedule.

I look forward to working with you!
